Psyllium husk powder is a potent fiber, this is a soluble fiber. It comes from a shrub-like herb called Plantago ovata that is grown all over Asia and most commonly found in India but is also grown all around the world. It grows wild in the southwest part of the United States.
Psyllium husk is derived from the seeds of the plant that are coated in a gel like substance. Each plant will typically produce between 11,000-15,000 seeds. The powder is made from lots of grinding to remove the seed's outer gel like layer, where the fiber is
most concentrated. Psyllium is a bulk-forming laxative. This means it soaks up the water in your gut and makes your bowel movements occur with ease and can help maintain regulated bowel movements. Psyllium will even soften your stool if you're staying
hydrated enough, this helps a lot with constipation as a one time help and long term maintenance.
Psyllium husk is most known for its digestive health support because it helps with the detoxification process by removing toxins and excess waste from the body. This happens so that the toxins and waste are not reabsorbed from the colon back into the bloodstream. Psyllium is a prebiotic, which is a substance that your body needs for healthy bacteria and probiotics to grow in the gut. creating and maintaining a beautiful healthy gut flora. While doing all these amazing things for the gut, psyllium is also known to help aid in lowering cholesterol, maintaining blood sugar, & even help with proper weight loss. When ingesting psyllium husk you need to be properly hydrated so the material can move through your body with ease rather than start to expand and clog you up.
